I remember where I was
When the word came about you
It was a day much like today
the sky was bright, and wide, and blue
Elizabeth needed air. She didn’t care how cold it was outside, but it was too confining in her office. She went out to the balcony and leaned against the wall. Sliding to the floor, she brought her knees up to her chest and laid her head down as she closed her eyes.
"You don't leave people in the hands of the enemy. And the fact that we are having this conversation in private lets me know that you know damn well that it's wrong, and it will totally undermine your leadership."
"I'm still trying to understand how you thought it was a good idea to test this device by having someone throw you off a balcony."
"Oh, believe me, that's not the first thing we tried."
"I shot him... In the leg!"
“You weren't really going to say that, were you?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
"You can't."
“I have to and you know it!”
"John... Go."
"You have to fight ‘em. So fight."
"You know which way you have to go."
"Run."
"On my command authority, whatever he asks, don't do it, even..."
Elizabeth lifted her head when she felt someone’s hand on her shoulder. “Carson?”
“Aye, Love,” he replied, helping her up. “Major Lorne said you’ve been out here for awhile now. Come inside it’s a wee bit chilly out here and you’re not wearing a jacket.”
Elizabeth nodded and followed Carson inside. He held her hand tightly as they moved through Atlantis. She knew he wasn’t about to leave her alone again and she was grateful.
“Have a seat,” Carson told her, patting one of the beds. She did so and one of the nurses quickly ran over with a warm blanket and placed it over her shoulders.
Elizabeth eyed him questioningly. “I just wanted to make certain you were all right. My explanation of what was happening to Colonel Sheppard came off a little insensitive. I apologize.”
And I wonder where you are
And if the pain ends when you die
And I wonder if there was
Some better way to say goodbye
She shook her head. “No, Carson, you were just stating the facts. I just don’t know what to do. If I turn Ladon over, John will never forgive me and who’s to say Kolya won’t go back on his promise?”
“Aye. He’s bloody psychotic that one is. I hate to say it, but Colonel Sheppard should have killed him the first chance he could.”
“You’re not the only one who feels that way, Carson.”
“Why don’t you try to get some rest? I’ll wake you up in a few hours.”
Elizabeth shook her head. “Carson, I don’t think I can sleep right now,” she admitted.
Carson seemed to understand, but he left her for a few minutes only to come back with a syringe in his hands. “I know you don’t like to do this, but you need sleep.”
“All right, Carson,” Elizabeth replied in defeat. He was right, she was exhausted in more ways than one and sleep would do her good. Hopefully she’ll be able to figure out how to save John without giving Ladon up to Kolya.
“Elizabeth.”
She blinked, almost not wanting to wake up until she remembered that Kolya had taken John. “Carson?” she asked. “How long have I been asleep?”
“A little over two hour
Her heart thumped in her chest. “Why do you say that?”
“We haven’t heard from Kolya yet, Elizabeth." He paused. "Nor Ladon."
Elizabeth didn't know how to respond to that and yet she knew that if they did find him, he wouldn't have much time left. In fact, he could be... No! She did not want to think that! John Sheppard was the most stubborn man she knew.
The only question that crossed her mind was, what would he be like if he did come home?
Today my heart is big and sore
it's tryin' to push right through my skin
I won't see you anymore
But I wonder where you are
And if the pain ends when you die
And I wonder if there was
Some better way to say goodbye

Secret Santa
Date: 2006-12-03 05:21 pm (UTC)Reaching from floor to ceiling, the eerie blue hologram played its message for the second time to it’s captivated audience. It, or rather she, projected a soothing voice into their minds, barely moving physically apart from the occasional glance to the side where there were, no doubt, bystanders or possibly something else of interest.
Each movement, no matter how small and insignificant, sent waves of shimmering light across the floor, illuminating the room in a magical glow and the simplicity of the image was strangely comforting.
“Rodney?” Elisabeth Weir finally said after the message had played through and come to a stop. An amused expression was tugging at her face; barely restrained by what little self-control she could muster. “What on Earth possessed you to do that?”
She pointed in the air at the empty space where the hologram had disappeared from just moments before and offered the astrophysicist a questioning stare. Beside her, John Sheppard nodded in agreement, repeating Weir’s question with a smirk. “Yeah, what on Earth possessed you to do that, McKay?”
Rodney glanced briefly between the two and then, frazzled, began to explain. “Well, strictly speaking, I wasn’t possessed by anything on Earth, because…well, we’re here; in Atlantis. It would make more sense that if I were possessed at all – which I’m not! – that it would be by something of Atlantian origin, which is – “ He cut short as he noticed the exasperated expressions on the faces surrounding him.
“Well, in any case, I thought it would be fun!” he finally said, getting to the point. He smiled meekly, averting his eyes and looking at the ground when Weir finally gave in and let the full extent of her amusement show.
He also avoided engaging in eye contact with John, who smirked and shook his head in disbelief. “You thought it would be fun?” John repeated flatly, placing a hand on Weir’s shoulder for support as he tried to hold in his laughter.
Rodney nodded mutely, eyes darting nervously between them and the floor. “Yes,” he replied.
“You seriously thought it would be fun to record a holograph of one of the technicians saying that?” he relayed again for confirmation. He stared incredulously as Rodney moved awkwardly under his gaze.
“Well…um…who wouldn’t find it fun to record a technician saying the Greek alphabet backwards!?”
Secret Santa
Date: 2006-12-08 07:31 pm (UTC)Mal had made up his mind not long after the Battle of Serenity Valley that there was no way in the verse he'd turn back to God. God had failed him in the war and there was nothing to say he wouldn't do it again. Really, there was no point to believe in him. No point at all.
So when Sheppard Book told him to find something to believe in, anything at all, he'd been more than a little critical and doubtful.
It had taken a lot for him to find something to believe in. But now, after all of the mayhem and wreckage that had pounded them further down, he'd found it. He'd found his faith; a reason to live on and fight for the future.
His faith had been with him all along and he had been blind to it until now. It held a much more powerful and undying loyalty than that of God. It was in the people around him.
It was his family.
Secret Santa Note

Date: 2006-12-20 06:28 pm (UTC)Forbidden Love
He pushed his mouth to hers with an urgency that only she could match, his arms on either side of her as she leaned back against the wall of his bunk. A low moan escaped her lips and he silenced it with another kiss as desperate as the first.
Visits like this were becoming ritual. She would come to him when everyone was asleep and without a word exchanged, he’d claim her as his own. These moments were the happiest of his life.
She moaned into his mouth again and he felt her hands run up and down his sides, tugging persistently at the edges of his shirt. Getting the message, he removed his hands from the wall and pulled her into his arms.
Still kissing, they made the way to his bed.
He knew it was forbidden and that nothing more could come of the precious moments they spent together, but they couldn’t help it. He was falling. Hell, he’d fallen already and was only going deeper. Forbidden or not, he was in. He was all in.

Date: 2006-12-20 06:39 pm (UTC)Mal knew it was only a matter of time before one of them walked away and said their goodbyes. There was so much between them that pointed in that direction; so many complications standing in their way and making that their only plausible option.
No other path would work for them – not if they wanted to continue on living their lives how they had been for as long as they could remember. Inevitably, another path would mean losing everything they knew and everything they were. It would destroy them.
It would destroy them either way, no matter what they did. Together, they were impossible. Apart, they were broken in half, shattered pieces of a whole ripped from where their hearts knew they should be.
“There’s no other way, is there?” Mal slowly asked the subdued Companion by his side. As usual, she was dressed in the finest silks she owned, deep velvets of the richest, most divine reds and golds. She bypassed Mal’s social standing as if he was merely a speck of dirt at her feet – a somewhat close reflection on how he often felt in her presence.
Inara turned to him with a sympathetic smile and shook her head. “No,” she said quietly. “There isn’t.” She gazed at him for a long moment, her eyes speaking volumes of emotion that she dared not express aloud, before she turned away and broke free.
Mal sighed and let his shoulders slump in disappointment. “I guess this is goodbye, then.”
Secret Santa =)
Date: 2007-01-13 09:23 am (UTC)Anyways, I thought it was about time that I reveal my identity. So here I am.
Follow You
No matter where life took him in the verse, Mal knew that Zoe would always be by his side.
She had followed him and stayed with him throughout the brutal horrors of war. She had followed him after the war and joined him on Serenity, in his attempt to find freedom from all the memories that haunted him. She had followed him on the mission to Miranda where he had believed they would be able to endanger or at least debunk a miniscule part of the evil that was Alliance.
And she had lost so much with him.
She had lost her faith. She had lost the life she may have had if she had not signed up with the Independents and even the crew of Serenity. She had lost her husband on Miranda and still, after almost a year, she had not gotten over his death in the slightest. She was quiet about it and didn’t let on, but Mal knew it. He could see it in her eyes. Zoe was falling and it was because of him. She was falling because she followed him.
